MySQL & MariaDB
MySQL & MariaDB
VinzaPanel stores website data in a database engine that runs on your server. MariaDB is the default: the first-login setup wizard installs it, together with phpMyAdmin, as a required app. You can also add PostgreSQL next to it, and on a server without MariaDB you can use MySQL instead.
Which engines are supported
| Engine | How you get it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MariaDB | Installed by the setup wizard (app MariaDB) | Recommended. A protected app: it cannot be removed while the panel depends on it. |
| MySQL | App MySQL from the Vinza Store | Conflicts with MariaDB — install one or the other, never both. The MySQL app refuses to install where MariaDB already serves the panel's databases. |
| PostgreSQL | App PostgreSQL from the Vinza Store (free on every plan) | Can run next to MariaDB or MySQL. |
When you create a database, the panel only offers the engines that are both installed as an app and present on the server. If none is installed, the Databases page shows Database Engine Required with a link to install one.
The MariaDB app
Open Databases → MariaDB in the sidebar (/apps/mariadb/). This page is for administrators and manages the database server itself:
- Service Control — start, stop, restart and reload the service, and see its status, version and data directory.
- Databases — every database on the server with its size and table count; create, drop and export (
.sqlor.sql.gz). - Users — create and drop database accounts, change passwords, and edit privileges per database with presets (all privileges, read-only, read-write or custom).
- Configuration — a structured form for common settings plus a raw editor for the server config file. Save & Restart writes the file and restarts MariaDB.
- Variables — all global variables, with a shortlist of the ones that usually matter. Values set here are runtime only; use the configuration to keep them after a restart.
- Processes — the current process list; kill a connection by id.
Configuration changes are server-wide and take effect after the restart. An incorrect value can stop MariaDB from starting, which takes every website that uses a database offline. Change one setting at a time.
Day-to-day database work
For everyday tasks — creating a database for a website, changing its password, granting privileges, importing or exporting a dump — use Databases in the sidebar (/databases/) instead. That page works for every user, respects ownership and hosting-plan limits, and tracks which website each database belongs to. See Creating & Managing Databases.
To browse tables and run SQL, open phpMyAdmin from a database row (see phpMyAdmin).
Connecting from an application
Applications on the same server connect to localhost: port 3306 for MariaDB/MySQL and 5432 for PostgreSQL. The database detail page shows the host, port, username, password and a ready-made connection string.
On a server with several nodes (Vinza Server), each node runs its own engine. A database is created on the node of its owner's account, and only the engines installed on that node are offered.
